Online fashion retailer Asos has launched ‘Made in Kenya’, a new collection in collaboration with African clothing workshop Soko for Autumn/Winter 2017. The collection aims to explore the print inspired looks taken from artworks made by local school children in Kenya.
The AW17 collection features a leather and faux shearling reversible jacket, a bright red balloon-sleeved robe as well as a blue zebra-print quilted kimono coat. Other key items from the collection include tailored pyjama sets, ruffled tea dresses and tote bags which capture the children’s hand-drawn pictures and mix them with bright animal prints.
All the items in the Asos Made in Kenya collection were designed in-house by the Asos team and then cut and produced at Soko Kenya. Each piece in the collection has been made following fair trade principles. Prices for the range start from 5 euros for accessories and go up to 125 euros for coats.
Asos has worked with Soko Kenya since 2010, a local clothing manufacturer that offers fair and safe employment. Since the start of their collaboration, Asos has provided support and training to help develop the Soko brand.
