Hi Jen. Lovely article. I have attempted an oil infusion using Moringa powder before. It was actually for a lotion. Unfortunately it didnt turn out well. The lotion went rancid really quickly and had to throw the whole thing out. What do you think I did wrong.

Yes, actually I would! I’ve been to Oktoberfests in Germany and Austria. With and without dirndls. People are always going to look because black skin is still not very common in these spaces (although it is slowly improving). I’ve gotten smiles and nods from strangers, wearing a traditional dirndl, so I can imagine that dirndls in african prints would blow people’s minds in a positive way.
In Bavaria and Austria, women often own more than one dirndl, and wear them more often than women who live further north. It’s like an women’s alternative to the little black dress. It can be worn to church on sunday, to Oktoberfest, blinged out to the theater. Every year there are new dirndl colours and trends… So these gorgeous dirndls could actually gain a wider market (than just Germans of african descent), once they can consistently show rhat the craftsmanship is up to scratch!

[…] Looking (online) for Dirndl or bavarian costumes you might stumble across the words ‘Landhaus‘, ‘Trachten‘ and ‘Dirndl‘. Basically, it is about all the same, but also not exactly. To explain it easy and short, Trachten is the actual thing. They made the evolution from workwear to nowadays daywear. They are usually plain and functional, to say so. Anything with the word Landhaus is way more casual. Landhaus Fashion might be an embroidered white blouse or regular jeans, also embroidered. The combination of both, for females, is the Dirndl. A Dirndl Dress is more fashionable and chic than a Trachten Dress, but still way more acceptable than anything Landhaus. The Dirndl is available in various colours and also relies on Trends. […]

I have read about omega fatty acids. Omega 3 is the essential fatty acid that is very important for the health of your hair.
Great source of omega 3 is all types of seafood, such as salmon, halibut, and tuna. Olive oil and certain nuts like walnuts and flaxseeds also provide the body with omega 3.

Hi Jen. When I first heard of moringa capsules, it was a month ago, from my sister-in law. She bought me these capsules because I had hair loss problem. After I gave birth to my daughter 2yrs ago, I started loosing my hair excessively. I sought for advice and help from friends. I even went to see the dermatologist. She prescribed me pills (nevaquine) and lotion which helped with healing my scalp as I had inflammation. The hair loss stopped but hair regrowth appeared to be happening very slowly. I started using moringa capsules last month but I can confidently say I see very positive results. Each and every week I can see a huge difference in my hair growth. My hairline is coming back and I’m starting to feel confindent again. Thanks to my brother’s wife for buying these capsules.

Wow! What a terrible experience you had :( I can definitely relate. I have not been at a salon for 4 years and I’ve been natural for 3 years. I’ve been thinking about going just to get a “second opinion” on my hair by a professional…however, I’m a little scared in going. I need a consultation, pictures, references, and the whole 9 yards for someone else to do my hair…years ago I was transitioning and my co worker suggested I see her stylist because I was looking. When I go there, she dry detangled my hair, scratched my scalp, cut about 3 inches of hair saying she was trimming (I had few split ends), and passed over my hair with a flat iron about 5 times a section…my husband was shocked to see how my hair looked. needless to say I got my hair tapered and stared back over…just a mess smh

I really am so glad I went natural but I really struggle with how short my shrunken fro looks. When stretched it’s a nice length but I want the nice big fros I see on all these natural hair pages. I rely heavily on protective styles such as weaves and wigs. I like the versatility of switch colors and textures without messing up my hair but I really would like a bigger fro before I wear it more often…. Idk just thoughts. This is a great article!

How do I define beauty? Beauty is relative. That’s the best way to describe the definition of beauty.

I liked this post but how do I find the porosity test? Right now, I feel like my hair my hair retains moisture if I use a sealant (like beeswax, shea butter, etc) after L.O.C. or even just after using leave in conditioner. Otherwise I feel like it sucks in the moisture and gets dry again. I guess that means “highly porose”.

I think that for the afro community to grow, Africans need to participate. I see a lot of black women in köln with natural hair but when it comes to attending a gathering, they fade away. I’m not certain the reason behind this but I have to admit that a regular afro show draws more crowd in Germany than an afro hair show. So my idea would be to fuse them together. Anyone organizing a traditional event should include hair fairs too.

    • Reply Be Frolicious 6. August 2015 at 11:09

Sometimes, you see somebody at the Africa festival doing one or more braids for a customer. This has been always there. Why not give your idea a try and having a place for natural hair fair. Thanks for the tip :)

But now that he’s since cut his locs, I find myself, some nights, putting my du-bag on my night stand until he goes to sleep just in case we get in a mood I know my scarf isn’t sexy lol
